HELB first-time applications close August 31. Here's what KMTC students specifically need to know.
Mark this date if you haven't applied yet — August 31, 2026 is the deadline for first-time HELB applicants for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Important — KMTC students, know this specifically:
KMTC has been approved for HELB loans only — not government scholarships. This means KMTC students are eligible for the HELB loan product specifically, unlike some university students who may access both scholarship and loan funding.
A requirement you cannot skip: To be eligible for HELB funding, you must have been placed into KMTC through KUCCPS. If you applied directly to KMTC outside the KUCCPS placement system, confirm your eligibility status before assuming you'll qualify.
What's confirmed about the process: ✓ HELB funding depends on KUCCPS completing student placement first ✓ Continuing students' loan applications for 2026/2027 already opened June 1 ✓ First-time applicant deadline: August 31, 2026
A warning worth repeating: HELB has previously flagged fake notices circulating online with false application dates. Only trust information directly from helb.co.ke or official HELB communication channels. If a notice asks you to call a number for "clarification" or "fast-tracking" — verify it directly with HELB first.
What to prepare before applying: ✓ National ID ✓ KMTC admission letter ✓ Parents' or guardians' ID copies ✓ Guarantor details ✓ Updated bank account details to avoid disbursement delays
August 31 is closer than it feels. Don't wait until the last week.
