Personal Information: When you create an account with KU Student Hub using Google Sign-In, we receive your name, email address, and account identifier. We also collect the academic and profile details you provide, such as your course, department, year of study, and, where you use paid features or creator payouts, your M-Pesa phone number.
Content You Provide: We collect the content you create or share in the app, including documents you upload and their details (such as title, description, course, price, and access type), chat messages and reports, AI tutor questions and conversation history, timetable entries, saved and downloaded items, and referral or payout information.
Non-Personal Information: We also collect technical and usage information, such as your device model, Android version, app version, IP address, a device identifier (such as your advertising ID or Android ID), your push notification token and timezone, and app usage data such as sessions, features used, downloads, and promo clicks. This information helps us operate, secure, and improve the app.
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used for the following purposes:
- • Personalized Content: We use your academic details to deliver study materials, lecture notes, past papers, and flashcard sets relevant to your course and year of study at Kenyatta University.
- • Payments and Subscriptions: We use your phone number and transaction details to initiate and confirm M-Pesa payments, activate and verify your semester pass, and maintain records of your purchases, payouts, and referral earnings.
- • Notifications: We may send you push notifications or emails about chat messages, new features, updates, or important announcements related to KU Student Hub.
- • Community and AI Features: We use your messages and questions to operate the student chat, route them to the people or AI service that should answer them, and store your conversation history so you can return to it.
- • Analytics and Improvements: Non-personal information is used to analyze app performance, troubleshoot issues, prevent abuse, and enhance overall functionality for a better learning experience.
Disclosure of Your Information
- • Third-Party Service Providers: We may share your personal information with service providers who help us operate the app, including Google Firebase for sign-in and push notifications, our hosting and infrastructure providers, Safaricom M-Pesa for payment processing, and AI service providers that generate tutor responses. These providers are bound by confidentiality obligations and may use your information only to provide their services to us.
- • Other Users: KU Student Hub includes student-to-student and alumni chat and lets students upload documents. Your display name, chat messages, and uploaded document details may be visible to other users of the app. Our chat community is shared with our other student apps, so users of those apps may also see your display name and messages. Please do not share information you want to keep private.
- • No Third-Party Advertising: KU Student Hub does not display third-party advertisements and does not share your personal information with advertising networks.
- • No Sale or Rental of Personal Information: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for any marketing or commercial purposes.
- • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information where required by law, regulation, legal process, or a lawful request from a public authority, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the app.
Security Measures
We employ reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, please note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
